Delegates from various countries began on July 14 the International Solidarity Mission to investigate human rights abuses committed by the Philippine military in the country.In Southern Tagalog, the delegates were joined by Save Bondoc Peninsula Movement, which is an umbrella organization of human rights, church and civic organizations investigating military abuses and calling for an end to militarization of civilian communities.
“This international solidarity mission (in Quezon province) daringly calls for all human rights defenders, advocates and citizens of the world to show solidarity and support the people’s call for a genuine land reform, to end the pillage of the province’s natural resources and stop the human rights violations and militarization in Bondoc Peninsula,” said the mission, in a statement.
Some of the local activists joined the mission delegates that have come from countries such as Peru, Guatemala, Mexico, Canada and USA.
Meanwhile, other international human rights activists from countries such as the Netherlands and Denmark went to Central Luzon to document human rights violations by state security forces in Hacienda Luisita, as well as the Aurora Pacific Economic Zone or Apeco.
The group will also investrigate the killing of Dutch missionary and activist Wilhelm Geertman on July 3 last year.
The mission will be held until July 17.
