The news items are full of denials, lies, cover-ups and half
or distorted truths. The officials involved will be doing all to come out from
these thumbsrews unscathed if not clean.
And whatever the results of these investigations, the issue
will never be killed for it will remain burned unto the collective minds of all
OFWs around the world: The Philippine embassies and agencies abroad are not
havens for Filipinos in distress.
DFA, DOLE/POLO has betrayed the OFW trust and will have hard
time recovering it. Not with promises and cosmetic measures. The damage has
been irremediabley done by the officials entrusted to serve and protect the Filipino
nationals abroad has fasiled the trust by becoming instruments to severe
violations of of rights and dignity of co-nationals in need of their
assistance.
Anywhere in the globe, the OFWs will look at these officials
with disgust and distrust, and these erring officials now on the grill has
earned it for all others in theDFGA/DOLE/POLO service, many of whom are
honestly doing their jobs.
These monsters of the sex-for-flight fame has done a grave
misservice to their respective offices and most of all, the the global OFW
communities.
The findings of the investigations may or may not prove
their guilt, but is inmaterial. The irremediable damage has been done, like a
cracked crystal it will never be truly healed.
