King tells Dutch to tighten belts

By The Holland Times Wed. 18 September 2013

King Willem-Alexander, head of a household which costs the Dutch taxpayers 39.4 million euro per year, has declared the “end of the welfare state” and told his subjects to tighten their belts instead of seeking government aid.

As part of his first Prinsjesdag speech, the monarch, whose predecessor received an 18 million euro per annum allowance for “personal costs,” told Dutch people that they must provide their own social and financial safety nets as part of a “participation society.”

The speech came before announcement of more austerity measures as part of the new Dutch budget.#
