MANILA, Philippines - He is so satisfied with the performance of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), President Benigno Aquino III announced a P10,000 anniversary bonus for each of its employees.
Aquino praised the achievements of the agency under the leadership of Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, and granted the bonus at the 80th founding anniversary of DOLE, on Monday, December 8.
"It's only right to recognize and honor those who show exceptional public service. That's why I'm very pleased to announce, I approved an anniversary bonus... of P10,000 for each DOLE employee," he said in his speech.
Aquino said he wanted to give employees a P20,000 bonus but said he was not allowed to give that much, adding it was easy for him to sign the approval of their anniversary bonus because of what they have been able to do.
Among the accomplishments of the agency Aquino praised were DOLE's role in establishing a "stable industrial peace climate" indicated by only one strike in the past year, despite the 152 notices of strike and lockout. The single strike this year is the lowest in the history of DOLE, said the President.
Because of the stability, Aquino said investors were encouraged to expand or open businesses in the Philippines.
He also hailed DOLE for being able to provide employment for communities hit by disasters.
"The tragedies we encountered this year were consecutive, but your agency was there as a strong ally of our people to help them rise again. Imagine: 11 days after Yolanda hit the Visayas, DOLE provided thousands of emergecncy employment to affected communities," he said. - Rappler.com
