KIDAPAWAN CITY – Seven soldiers onboard a military truck were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded while en route to Barangay Luna Sur, a remote village in Makilala town in North Cotabato, around 12:45 a.m., Friday, an Army official said.

Lt. Manuel Gatus, spokesman for the Army’s 57th Infantry Battalion, said the soldiers, all members of the 57th IB, suffered blast injuries in different parts of their bodies and were rushed to nearby hospital in Poblacion, Makilala for treatment.

Elements of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) under the Army’s 38th Infantry Battalion rushed to the site as reinforcement but were met with gun fires from the enemy side, Gatus said.
None among the CAFGU men was wounded, though, during the exchange of fires.
The military official hinted the roadside bombing was the handiwork of the New Peoples’ Army (NPA).
The Army launched massive pursuit operations against communist guerillas responsible for the blast. (Malu Cadelina Manar)
