ENDORSEMENT FOR MIGRANTE
PARTYLIST #96
The silence of the
celebrities on Migrante Partylist #96 in contrast with other Partylists is very
noticeable, but understandable. They have no links to the sector represented by
the Migrante. They are not affected by the issues of migration.
But as voice of
migrant workers, Migrante International with its more than seventeen years of
untiring service and its political organization Migrante Sectoral Party
commonly called Migrante Partylistn has become an institution. Filipino mgrant
workers who felt the neglect of society and the government has nobody to turn
to in times of distress except to Migrante International. Although endorsement
from other quarters could be very welcome, it ias the endorsement of the
millions Filipino migrant workers around the world and their family more than
substituted this lack of recognition from other quarters. The endorsement of
OFWs is more than recognition. It amounted to approval for their chosen sector:
the ever neglected and marginalized fprgotten modern day heroes.
It must be remembered that
this Partylist is dedicated to the
service of the Filipino migrant workers. It goes deep into the roots of the
issue namely the lack of jobs that could give salaries for decent life of
families and related issues such as the chronic poverty that goads the workers
to migrate from the country to find a better chance to give their family a
better future.
The celebrities has
nothing to do with all these. They never felt the hardships of loneliness and
privations endured daily by the migrant workers, the natural longing of a
father or mother to be with their loved ones, they have never experienced the
maltreatments, being taken advantaged, ignored and even neglected by their own
government.
Noi, it is a far cry
from the life they know. It is not their world. It is the OFW world. Nobody but
OFWs or ex-OFWs could understand this world.
If the celebrities, by
their own volition, choose to endorse the partylist of OFWs, they are most
welcome with thanks. But OFWs never ask from others to speak for them. They
want to speak for themselves now. Voice out their heartaches and shout to the world
their pain, their troubles, as nobody could. The migrant workers has reached
the stage to know that only migrant workers could really speak for migrant
workers through their own representative they have chosen from their ranks.
The other partlists
need celebrities to endore them. They even pay to have it. Migrant workers has
to endorse their partylist if they are to advance. To solve the present
problems and in the long run, to solve the roots oif outward migration, till
the time when there will be no more need for workers to migrate abroad. That is
the vision of all migrant workers which is voiced by the Migrante Partylist
vision: a society where families are not broken apart by the need to survive-
